Chapter 19 : Summer Wine Part 1/3

"OWW! My eyelid won't go back any farther- will you quit it?!?!" I yelped out loudly as my sister tried to put eyeliner on my water line. It was 2:20 and she was trying to help me get ready for the competition and if she kept messing around with my make up any longer, I wouldn't be dressed in time. "The sun kissed look is perfect for you, let me just add some bronzer to your cheeks and a little more eyeliner after this coat sets" she said as my eye balls became two snow balls when she blew on my inner eyelid with her minty fresh cold breath.

Jess finished my makeup and now we had to deal with the real problem, my outfit. Kizzy had just walked into my room and dumped a massive heap of clothes onto the floor. "Okay where should we start? How about a dress? I think that's the easiest" she said to me while smiling with her  blue eyeshadow  glimmering in the light.

I looked down at the massive heap of clothes, this was going to take forever.

"There's no way in hell I'm trying on ALL of that....Let's start small and pick out some dresses, I'm kind of in a hurry" I said to her while opening my eyes wide, I was blind as a bat.

It took us a while to come to an agreement on my outfit. Jessica picked out the first one and it was well- 'glamorous'. I stood there in front of them looking awkward as ever in this dress. "Ehh...I'm not feeling it...What do you guys think?" I asked them.

Jessica's eyes grew larger and she opened her mouth slowly before she spoke. "Well, it's nice but it's not for you....Damn you're skinny as hell" she said to me. Kizzy looked at her with annoyance and said "I told you my outfit would be a better choice...Try mine on instead Melody and see how you like it"

I tried on Kizzy's dress that she picked out for me and it was beautiful,  too beautiful. I stood there in front of them and sighed while holding my fist up to my chin. "Kizzy this dress is beautiful but don't you think it's a bit much? It's hot outside." I said to her as if it were common sense and clearly she didn't have any common sense.

Both Kizzy and Jessica turned to eachother and then looked back at me, quizically. "Hmmm...Neither of our visions worked out. How about we just go with something simple?" Jessica asked Kizzy and she responded by saying "Yup let's try that...What about polka dots?" Kizzy asked and then that's when everything clicked.

I swung around in the room with the dress they had picked out for me, feeling free. "This is the perfect dress" I exalimed ginerly as the dress flowed back and forth and swayed with my body. It wasn't too much but it wasn't too little either. Jessica and Kizzy looked at me and said "Wow" in sync with one another.

I had my dress on and it was 2:57, I was standing there with my heart on my chest reciting the lyrics. "Strawberries, cherries ,and an angels kiss in spring...My summer wine is really made of all these things" I mumbled while looking around my room. Boom -bum, Boom- bum, Boom-bum. Oh God I was going crazy, I wanted to back out but David would be here soon, Kizzy and Jessica left to go get there on time and said we would hang out later, and my uncle had to go to work, there was an emergency down at the hospital and here I was trying not to mess up the words to a simple from the 60's, way before my time.
***********************************

When David showed up at my door my jaw dropped instantly.  He looked so different and mature? I couldn't exactly explain it but the best way to describe his appearance was with the word sophisticated. "You clean up nicely" I said while I nervously giggled.

David sighed and put his hands behind his neck while rolling his eyes. "My dad is in town, he made me wear my hair 'normally' , I don't need you to laugh at me" He said annoyingly while breathing all heavily.

What the hell? "I was actually complimenting you...But okay I guess you don't want my compliment, you really do look good, different- but good" I said slowly. I couldn't believe he didn't think I was being honest.

David laughed and shruged his shoulders at me. "Well, you're always mean to me so how am I supposed to know when you're actually being nice?" He asked me confusingly while looking my straight in the eye with those beautiful blue eyes of his.

"Hey!" I shouted out in dissent. "I am not that mean...You make me act that way, you're rude" I said to him in disagreement. I wasn't a rude kind of girl so I had no idea what he was talking about, he was the one that was rude.

"Yeah, yeah sure I am" David said sarcastically "Come on" he added as he pointed towards his car that was parked on the grass. "Umm is there a reason why you couldn't just park on the side of the road like a normal person" I asked him with just as much sarcasm that he had given me before. He had a Dodge Challenger instead of his Camaro, and I must admit I thought it looked better than the Camaro, this thing was like a race car. "Do you really think I would park Christine out on the side of the road where she can get hit by some careless driver" He asked me while grinning and admiring his car. "Wow, you named your car? You're so lame" I said while laughing at him and he frowned. "Shut up, every guy does...Look just get in alright" he said to me before we hit the road.

The car ride was long, we were driving out to the beach and even though his car smelled like brand new leather seats, I could smell the scent of the salt water and ocean life, it was intense.  The ride was silent and all I could hear was the faint boom of rap music playing from his stereo. "Sooooo, why didn't you drive your Camaro?" I asked him, trying to make a conversation out of the dead air surrounding us. He laughed and hit the breaks, before the stop line of the red light. "Because- I don't want someone scratching it on 'accident' or stealing it...Most importantly I haven't fixed it yet"

I was confused and saw the palm trees approaching us as we kept driving on and on. "What do you mean? Did you get into an accident?" I asked him cruiously, without trying to be too nosey. The pitch in his voice lowered slightly as if he were avoiding something. "Oh , um.. I had an issue with my license plates, it's an easy fix though, I'll handle it next weekend" he said and then turned the dial on the radio making the volume increase. "I swear to God, all I do is cash out!" the stereo boomed with some guys extremely annoying monotone voice. I cringed and started moving around in my seat a little, hoping David would notice and turn the music down but nope, he kept on driving.
*************************

The car ride was about a good hour and about 15 minutes. We arrived at the venue and it was dead, we were pretty much the only ones there and David decided to help one of the contestants tune their guitar, I thought that was pretty nice of him to do. Plink, plink, plunnnk, plink I looked around confusingly as he was making the strings resonate. Why were we so damn early? No one had even started performing yet, we could've been practicing.

David finished tuning the guitar quicker than I ever could imagine. He started walking around and honestly I was just following him around like a little lost puppy, I had no idea what to do with myself and I was so confused. "Sooooo, ummm why are we here so early?" I asked him but he didn't even adknowledge my existence, he was looking off into the other direction like a dog that was excited to see its master.

Casey was standing  there next to the ocean with the sun light shining from behind her. Her perfectly blonde hair was swaying around in the wind and her evenly tanned body was covered in those fake tattoos you'd get out of the bottom of a cereal box. "Hey, you!" she yipped.

David darted over there to her like a dog in heat and they kissed quickly before pulling away from eachother yet still holding onto one another, looking into eachother's eyes. "I didn't think you were coming" David said to her in amazement. Casey shook her head "Babe, I know how much this means to you...I HAD to show up" she said to him which made him smile, it felt weird standing there watching them so I figured I would leave them alone.

I made my way over to the ocean and watched the waves crash onto the shore, effortlessly. I was a nervous wreck but sitting here by the water made me somewhat calmer. The voice of the sound man and the host was all that I could hear in the background, they were trying to get everything all set up. We were very early which made me angry because I felt like we should've at least been practicing but David was so against that for some strange reason.

I got up and dusted the sand off the back of my dress, I looked around and out at the ocean taking everything in. The sun was breaking in and out all day, and I honestly was starting to think it would rain, it was like one minute it was bright out and then the next minute it was pretty dark, dark enough for the street light to come on. I kept walking along the shore and stopped until I saw a familiar face. I was caught off guard, it looked like the person I thought it was but then again it kind of didn't. "Denver is that you?" I asked oddly.

I got closer to him and realized it actually was him. "Shh! Don't blow my cover! My name is Chris!" he whispered loudly with desperation screeching all throughout his voice. What the hell was going on? "It's alot to explain but if people realize it's me, I probably won't get any votes" he said quietly. My mind raced back to that story David told me and suddenly I felt uncomfortable, not for myself but for Denver, he seemed harmless but was he really?  Then again who was I to judge anyone?

The silence grew between us as I stood there pondering around in my thoughts. Denver interrupted the silence when he slowly he begain to say "Milky, are you okay...You look different...More mature perhaps?" For Christ sakes why did he always call me that? I hated it, what did Milky even mean? I didn't feel different but, maybe he saw something in me that I didn't see. "Well...since you won't talk I guess I'll talk to you later, good luck out there Milky" he said to me as he walked off towards the center of the beach, gathering with the rest of the audience, the competition was starting.

*************************************

It hadn't even been an hour yet and I had already grown bored of the contestants, they were all different yet the same. Most of the people didn't even follow the theme which was the 60's. They contestants were redundant and unoriginal, it was almost a joke. Me and David really didn't have any 'competition.' The girl performing right now was just way too over the top "I kissed a girl and I liked it" she whined out loud in the most annoying way possible, it was horrendous.

The contestant that performed after her wasn't as atrocious but she was just as boring. "And in India we place out hands together like this and move our hips side to side like this" she said to the crowd while she demonstrated the Indian dance to us. It was cool that she was trying to respect her culture and everything but she was just boring, she didn't even sing and yet again this performance had nothing to do with the 60's!

It had to be about 2 hours of straight boredom before the most eye striking performance of the evening started. A girl with bright neon purple hair that almost looked blue was parading around the stage practically naked. Her shorts barely covered her lady bits while she was standing and she made matters even worse when she decided to bend over while "I'll do what ever you like" to some obnoxious pop song. It was pathetic and over sexualized yet striking to the eye, I guess it's true how they say sex sells because everyone was surely in tune with her performance.

I stood there with the rest of the audience, in awe with my hand covering my wide and open jaw. Most of the guys were excited hell, even David waas smiling a few of the women were smiling but I just couldn't get my lips to do so. It was atrocious, and unbelievable that she felt comfortable objectifying herself like that just for a few votes and $800 but I guess people will do anything for money.

"Woo! Bend over some more baby! I'm loving the view!" David shouted out to the girl and Casey elbowed him in the arm. "Seriously?" Casey said to him, clearly showing her irritation towards his comment.

******************

That performance was the last straw for me, I ended up walking along the shore again and I could hear the host shout into the microphone "Ariel is up next performing 'I'm Walking on Sunshine!' " I wanted this day to be over with, it was almost night time and the sun was getting ready to rest. I looked all over the beach and saw my uncle who was supposed to be at work. He was talking to a woman with brown hair that could also be considered orange, my heart sunk into my stomach. That was the woman he had been telling me about yesterday, I guess fate really is real after all, I walked closer and could hear her laughing, probably at one of his corny jokes. I smiled and turned around to walk the other way, I didn't want to disturb them but most of all I didn't want him to notice me walking around by myself when I should've been 'excited' and ready to go "conquer the world" as he likes to say.

I kept walking along the shore and 'surprise, surprise', I ran into Denver yet again but this time there was a girl hugging him tightly while they walked down the shore together. "Hey Melody" Denver said while squirming around a little uncomfortably as he tried to raise his hand and wave to me. "Melody, eh? You've already made friends, you know you've always been the social type, Denver" The girl said to him as she rested her head on his shoulder and stared out into space clearly reminscing about something. "Ummm...This is Abigail, I love her" Denver said in a yippy way, clearly showing his excitement.

'Why don't you just fuck her since you love her so much' I thought to myself but I knew I couldn't say that so I bit my tongue and faked a smile, pretending to care. "Well...that's nice, look I really should get going" I said trying to avoid the rest of the awkwardness that this conversation would eventually have. Who the fuck was she? I had never seen her around town before and she sure seemed close to Denver. The more I stood there thinking about it, the more angry I grew as I stared at them together, I thought he liked me. Well, there goes my chances I thought to myself as I bit my lip a little and then sighed. Denver never exactly said if he was single or not but it was pretty obvious she was his girlfriend or 'fwb'  or whatever they call it these days.

"Well, good luck, it's not like you need it though...I'll be screaming for you" Denver said to me as he gave me a thumbs up. I flashed a fake smile when really I wanted to give him the middle finger. We grew silent again and then Denver decided to be generous to me. "You know me and Abi are going jet skiing after this is all over, you can join us if you want...The tides are going to be pretty decent tonight"

'No I don't want to fucking go anywhere with you and that bitch' I thought to myself but I awkwardly put my hand out and pointed to the middle of nowhere. "You know that's sooooo nice of you BUT I'm doing something with my sister after this is over...I really have to go now or David will get upset with me" I said as I walked away from him before he could even try and say anything back to me.

Just as I turned around and started walking back towards the crowd of people the host was on stage annoucning the next performer. "Well these performances sure have been interesting, some of you guys need to realize that the theme is the 60's but anyways, your next performers are singing a duet by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood...Summer Wine, take it away!"

It felt like it took forever for me to walk up the stage as everyone's eyes were on me like lasers on a hand gun. David walked up to the microphone and introduced himself, holding his guitar in his hand and he stood off to the side throwing the rock and roll sign up to the crowd as he smiled and waited for me to do the same. I was so nervous, David had it easy because he was hiding behind his guitar, I had nothing but myself and this felt so personal even though I barely knew any of these people. "Well, uh my name is Melody and I'll be singing with David so, yeah let's begin" I said while I threw up the rock and roll hand sign so awkwardly.

The song started and David was strumming the guitar almost perfectly. Things were somewhat awkward at first but we both ended sharing the microphone. "Strawberries, cherries, and angles kiss in spring, my summer wine is really made of all these things" I sang out loudly with some sort of melancholiness I thought I coould never posess. I had my eyes closed and crossed my arm over my chest swaying back and forth trying to forget about the people watching.

Denver sure didn't lie when he said he would be screaming for me. We weren't even two minutes into the song and Denver was screaming and hollering in the crowd "Woooo! You go Mel!" Some people were giving him odd looks but it was obvious he didn't give a damn, I wanted to laugh but I couldn't, I breathed in deeply and kept singing.

My uncle and his 'lady friend' were smiling in the crowd also, perhaps they would become greats friends, maybe more. Either way, he sure was an unpredictable person but he was still loveable.

My sister was in the air waving her hands back and forth while Kizzy held her on her shoulders. "Wooo! That's my sister up there!" She yelled while her voice cracked in between her yelling, she definately wasn't going to have a voice tomorrow.

It felt like we were up there longer than 3 minutes but finally the song was about to end, David backed up from the mic and stood behind me waiting for me to finish the song. "Oooohhhh summer wine" I sung out once more before withdrawing from the microphone.

I opened my eyes and the crowd started cheering wildly at us, David walked off the stage waving to the crowd as he took a bow and put his guitar away. "Thank you" I said before bowing and walking off the stage quickly as my heart raced somewhat moderately.

The night was still somewhat young, and I stood in the crowd watching the rest of the contestants perform. Denver was one of them and I must admit he was pretty good. He was playing some song on his guitar and  I had no idea what it was because he wasn't singing but the sound was reminiscent of the sounds you would hear in 60's music.

"Ohhhh isn't he so amazing? He's just so talented and everything a girl could ever want" Abigail said while she was watching him, she sighed and clutched her hand, brining them up to her chest. She was standing there day dreaming and I laughed to myself, she seemed kind of dramatic.

*************************************
THIS NEXT PART IS PRETTY CHEESY BEWARE! [I didn't want them to win but it only makes sense later down the line so just bear with the cheesiness :( ]
********************************************************

The night dragged on but the moment we were all waiting for came eventually. "The votes were counted up thrice, yup that's right I said thrice...I think that ocean water messed up my brain" the host said as she stood there wasting time going on a rant about water pollution. "Okay so let me cut to the chase...There was a tie between-" she dragged the last vowels in her sentence, leaving us all in suspense. I could feel my heart screaming in my chest, come on just say it already I thought to myself. "Kristen who put on that amazing performance with her amazingly purple hair! Annnnd" She was about to announce the runner up and I didn't have any faith to begin with but I lost all hope after I realized Kristen got the most votes and all she did was bend over and look 'pretty'. The host continued "David's duet with Melody" The crowd started rooting and hollering and I just stood there in amazement, I had to be dreaming because this was all so surreal.

The host stood there smiling and laughing at the crowd's reaction. "Okay, settle down folks!" The crowd eventually calmed down and she continued saying what she had to say "Okay well since the theme was the 60's and Kristen's performance had nothing to do with the 60's , the winners of this years competition are David Rakenson and Melody Wiggins!" The crowd cheered and I stood there in shock and disbelief, this was a dream come true. "Now to all of you who didn't win don't be discouraged there's always next year and some of you guys were so good that you might want to consider starting a band with some of the other contestants, I know potential when I see it" The crowd kept cheering and after that me and David had to go fill out some papers, and sign a bunch of that stuff for legal purposes and all that jazz.
**************************************************************************

The sky grew darker and darker and the moon shined brighter and brighter. The crowd of people grew thinner and thinner and the chatter of people became more distant by the second. My uncle approached me and I ran into his arms and gave him a hug. "Congratulations! I'm so proud of you!" He said to me and I didn't really know what to say, I had never really done anything worthy of praise before so it felt a little odd having people say congratulations and stuff like that and besides I didn't even think I was that good. I held onto him and looked at the ground, smirking. "I thought you were backed up at the hospital?" He laughed and said "I'll tell you later, enjoy the rest of your night with your friends" I was surprised he said that, I didn't really have friends. Was he trying to get rid of me? "Oh- well sure I guess I will do that" I said while looking at the ground a little awkwardly. "Text me if you need me, I'll see you later kiddo" He said to me before he left.

The beach was pretty empty and I was walking around looking at all of the people left, I stopped in front of the ocean and looked out at the view before Casey walked up to me. She hesitated before she decided to speak to me"Umm, I know I don't know you that well but David's been acting weird and it seems like he talks to you. Do you know what's gotten into him?" She asked me, looking desperate for an answer. I knew she cared about David but I had no idea why she would think he would talk to me about his personal problems.

I began having a little battle within my head. Should I tell her about how he nearly killed that doctor? What if he was acting strange because he kissed me? No, Melody it's not your place to put other people's business out there, just forget it ever happened and let David decide whether or not he wants to tell anyone. I sighed and tried to make it seem like I was thinking about something. "It beats me, we barely talk but I'm pretty sure he would tell you if something was up" I said quickly and after that I lied right between my teeth. "Umm you know, I have to go my parents will kill me if I don't get home before 11, my sisters about to leave and they don't like me driving with people they don't know" I said to her, just to make sure she wouldn't try and offer to give me a ride or something like that.

Casey nodded and smiled at me and said goodbye, thank god that was over. I wasn't the kind of person that was good with lying. I ran into David and he had a very uneasy way about him. "Umm, where the hell were you? Casey asked about you, she's worried about you." I said while shrugging and looking at him from head to toe.

"Look, I have to handle some stuff and I have to go but I'll be back soon..Could you look after my guitar and stuff?" He asked me while looking out into the distance with his eyes wide. I really didn't want to stay here much longer but I guess it wouldn't hurt if I spent about 20 more minutes here. "Sure thing" I said to him and he quickly said thanks before running off to the parking lot and disappearing.

I sighed and stood there with my eyes closed as the mid summer night breeze flew past me in all directions. I felt free, from what? I have no idea but I felt liberated like all of those feminists say when they cut off all their hair and do all of that other kind of stuff.

**************************************************************

I hung around and made sure no one touched David's stuff, it had to be at least 15 minutes and he still wasn't back. My sister and Kizzy were walking along the beach passing time, while they were waiting for me. I watched them walk along the shore back and forth, numerous amounts of times and this time they came back with some guy standing between them. "So, this is your sister? She's beautiful, just like you" The guy said with his husky voice, he stood there staring at me and I wasn't sure how to feel.

"Umm are you serious? Who the hell is this guy? You guys really think it's okay to bring some random fucking guy you practically met off the street to come and hang out with us?"  I said irritatingly, while throwing my hands out into the air. I swear sometimes my sister had no common sense.

Kizzy plopped down on the stage platform and the guy sat there hunched over looking at the ground as if he were in some sort of trance. "Come on Melody, live a little! I mean honestly, who would put themself at risk just to help some teenage girls get some beer? Not many people....He's harmless and besides, there's three of us and 1 of him, if he tried to pull something he would be on the ground..No offense" She said while placing a finger over her mouth while glaring in a sarcastic way. The guy laughed a little after she did  that and said "Don't worry I wasn't offended, I understand" Kizzy's eyes lit up and she continued bullshitting "You see! He's a nice guy, now come over here and have some fun with us...We got a bottle for you, don't make me drink your beer. After all you're the triumphant one, you deserve it"

Before I could even say anything back my sister walked up on the stage and layed down beside them. "Melody, don't freak out but do yourself a favor and don't turn around right now" What was she talking about? I hated when people said that kind of stuff  because every time someone tells you not to do something, most of the time you end up doing it anyways.

Of course I turned around and realized what Jess was talking about. Denver and his sidekick were coming closer and closer to the shore as they were riding their jet skii's towards our direction, fuck me.

They made their way up to the shore, got off the jet skii's and approached me. Abigail started hugging Denver and she squeezed him just before she sighed like she was so desperately in love. "Are you coming with us?" Denver asked me and Abigail decided to chime in and answer for me. "Ohhh, look she's with some other people she probably doesn't want to hang out with us, let her enjoy her night with her friends Denver come on, let's go" She said while tugging on him a little. "Hold on, she didn't even speak yet" He said a little rudely.

"No, it's okay believe me I'd rather get hammered with my sister and her annoying friends instead of hang out with a narcissistic cunt and a rapist." I said with a bitchy tone in my voice, I knew what I said was bad and pretty  low but I really didn't care. I had no idea who she was or where she came from but she definitely needed to go back to wherever that was and stay there. She was a bitch and I wasn't going to ignore it and just let it slide.

Abigail picked her head up from Denver's shoulder and gave me the evil eye.  "Wow, you have alot of class...You  NEVER call someone the 'c' word" She said to me as if I were dumb and had missed the memo or something. Denver was glaring at me and I could hear the ocean waves recede and calm down a little "What the hell is your problem?" he asked me and   Abigail chimed in saying "You don't need to deal with all of THAT drama again. I thought you said she was your friend? Nevermind, let's just go enjoy the time we have together" The waves behind them crashed up against the shore, violently and the water almost sounded like it was sizzling. "No, I could never be friends with someone who is so disrespectful and, such a bitch" He said before they both turned around and walked away from me.

I turned back around towards the stage only to see my sister and Kizzy trying to share a dance with this random guy they picked up off the street. "Slow down!" Kizzy yelled out. There wasn't even any music playing, they looked like idiots but I guess they were having fun. I noticed the way the guy was holding Kizzy and she was perfectly fine with it, go figure I thought to myself.

I stood there lost in my thoughts, so much to the point that I forgot that they were even there. Denver called me a bitch, but he ignored the fact that Abigail wasn't the nicest person either. I knew I shouldn't have brung up the whole rape thing especially since I didn't really know that much about it and it was pretty harsh of me to call her a cunt but God damnit I was angry and we all say things we shouldn't say when we're mad. If Denver couldn't get over it then he was just stupid. Fuck it, it really didn't matter, it was done and over with and there was nothing I could do to change it.

I walked up to the stage and laid out on the floor. "Why am I such a dumbass?" I said out loud and my sister lifted her leg up in the air trying to dance like a professional. "You're not a dumbass sis, Denver's a dumbass...What happened, anyways?" She asked me and I laughed and said "I'd hate to repeat what I said but I said the 'c' word and-" My sister cut me off before I could even continue "Damn! That's pretty bad, I know you probably feel horrible about saying that- have some beer it might make you feel a little better" She said which only made me laugh. "I'd rather not, I don't want to become an alcoholic" I laughed even harder and my sister sighed "Mel, I love you" she said to me and she continued dancing with Kizzy and the stranger. I must admit that made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, like a teddybear. I looked up at them and couldn't help but smile just a little, it was pretty funny watching them. I stopped looking at them and just looked up at the sky, the stars were shining brightly and it reminded me of David's eyes, what time was it? I guess it really didn't matter what time it was because I couldn't go back in time and change all of the dumb stuff I just said. That warm feeling I had inside me before was gone and I felt empty, my eyes started to feel hot and stiff, I didn't want to cry so I got up to go walk around and hold my tears back a little bit.

I was going to walk around the stage and once I hit the corner David came rushing down the bumpy little hill of sand and walked over to me. "There you are! I'm sorry it took me so long to come back b- Hey are you okay?" He asked me slowly while he invaded my personal space and came close to me, rubbing the side of my face. I turned my face away from him and my nose roughly brushed up against his thumb. "I'm fine okay, just please stop touching my face" I said quietly while frowning . My voice was about to crack any minute and I was going to break down and cry. PLEASE do not ask me anything else, I thought to myself because I knew if I spoke one more word I would lose my composure.

David distanced himself from me and gave me a straight face. "You don't have to lie to me, you're eyes are glistening like you might cry or something- Hey who's that guy over there with Jess and Kizz?" He said while looking over at them and laughing a little.

I put my hand over my chest and breathed in deeply. You can do this, just keep yourself together for a minute or so, I told myself. "He's just some guy they met, look you're right I'm not okay...I just want to go home, I'm going to start walking home now" I said and pushed my hand up against my chest a little harder, trying to be strong.

David started smiling from ear to ear. "I'm not letting you walk home by yourself, you should be happy. Why don't come over my house for a little while? I have something that will definitely make you smile, I promise" He said to me cheerfully, and his eyes lit up with glee, something was up and I wasn't sure if it was good or bad.

"Umm, sure why not?" I said somberly while looking at the ground and then I suddenly got nervous. "Wait, wait wait... What exactly did you mean when you said that? I have 911 on speed dial you know-" I said while throwing my hands up in the air and looking at him oddly.

"Wow Mel, you're silly" He laughed and then said "Who would've know that you have such a gutter brain, come on let's go"  David walked over to the stage, got his stuff and whispered something to Jessica and then he came back over to me and we started walking towards the parking lot. He was mocking me while we walked towards his car and I must admit it was just a little bit funny.

We got into the car and we had been driving for a while, I looked at the clock on the dashboard and realized it was 11:40. David's phone vibrated and he quickly looked down at it, viewing a text message. "Fuck! My dad's in town" he muttered as he quickly threw his phone down into the cup holder, ever so carelessly.

We pulled into the drive way and walked in. I looked around and frowned, his parents changed the furniture in the livingroom. It looked good but it annoyed me a little bit for some strange reason. "Soooo, where's this thing that's supposed to make me so happy?" I asked him casually.

"Wow you really don't want to be here huh?" David said as if he were surprised. "You know you're such a sassy little brat sometimes, we just got here and you're rushing me...gheez you're a rude house guest" he said before chuckling and he turned away to go down the hall way and then he turned back around. "Hey, you're not allergic to anything, right?" he asked me.

I took a seat in his arm chair, it was stiff yet comfortable. "Don't worry David the only thing I'm allergic to is you" I said and he laughed and walked down the hallway and told me he would be right back.

He came back into the living room holding a cute little dog that looked a little scruffy. "This is Chi-Chi, I just got her...My dad's friend was about to shoot her because her fur color wasn't a popular mix for most of the people he sells them to...I didn't want to leave the competition so early but I just HAD to save her...The guy's a fat bastard, to be honest I wanted to punch him in the face when I got there but sadly he's my dad's friend" I smiled a little, I found it a little cute how he was so passionate about an animal's life, David smirked a little. "Heeey you're smiling!" he said and then he held her out to me so I could hold her.

I picked her up and carried her around the room a little bit. I ended up kissing her little nose, she was adorable even though her fur could use a little bit of a trim. "Fuck!" David exclaimed loudly and he looked at me frantically "Put her down" I did as he said and he went and took her down the hall.

I was clueless as to what was going on but once the front door swung open and his mother stood there infront of me I realized what was up. "WHO ARE YOU AND HOW DID YOU GET IN MY HOUSE?" His mother asked me while she looked at me with her eyes nearly falling out of their sockets.

"Wow this is awkward" I said quietly as I  stood there with my arm on my hand, trying to wait for David to come back out but those seconds I was standing there felt like hours. "Ummm, I'm David's friend Melody, he just wanted to show me his errrr, guitar collection" I said while looking down at the freshly polished wooden floors they had placed down.

His mother grinned and gasped. "Oh YES! Melody! The one he sang with today, right? This is perfect, but where is David?" She asked me and just as she said that he came out from the hallway and stood by me.

We stood there silently looking at each other and  then Woof woof woof was all that could be heard in the house. "David please don't tell me there's a DOG in our house, I JUST paid  for this new furniture, I don't need it getting scratched up and I don't need our house to start smelling like a pet shop" she said frantically.

"That fat bastard was going to kill it, I had to save the dog" David said to his mom and she kept arguing with him. David sighed and said "I'll keep her locked up, and I'll make sure she won't get to anything but the least we could do is make a room for the dog...We have empty rooms so I don't see why not" He said.

"Those rooms are for guests! Not pets...There's no way I'm having that thing stay here, your dad is going to blow a fit David! Why can't you just listen to us for once? Oh yeah and by the way, do you know I got ANOTHER thing in the mail about you skipping a red light, they have you on camera!" She shouted out and I felt so awkward standing there listening to them argue.

"They must've gotten the wrong person because I haven't been driving recklessly anymore mom, besides what does that have to do with anything?" "You know they're always targeting me just because of my name" His mom didn't say anything and she sighed deeply. "Ugh, I have to take Melody home it's getting late...Can we talk about this later?" He asked her.

David was getting ready to start heading out the door and his mom put her hand up and stopped him. "David! How rude is it for you to just let this poor girl go home without even offering her to stay for dinner, I know it's late but that is extremely rude" She smiled at me and said "You're father's going to be here any minute now, I texted you..He's in town, you guys just won a competition...Let's celebrate and go out to dinner!"

His mother sure was pushy. I tried to get myself out of this little dinner situation. "Uh, no that's very nice of you Mrs.Rakenson but I can't eat right now, I'm not even hungry and it's getting pretty late" David chimed in "Umm yeah mom, she's only 15 isn't it illegal for her to be out this late?"

His mother laughed and said "David you're so funny sometimes! It's only illegal if the minor isn't accompanied by an adult and in that case we're going...If her parents want to talk to me they can talk to me, better yet they can come too if they want either way your dad will be here soon, so get your keys and take her in your car, this is perfect! You can follow me and your father and maybe you will finally learn  to stop driving like a maniac. Oh this is going to be so great, you're father is going to be here, I feel like it's been forever!" She exclaimed, letting her excitement ring through her voice.
